Noosa Walking Trails

As locals of Noosa, we know there’s no better way to experience the heart of this stunning part of the world than by hitting the Noosa walking trails. Sure, the beaches are famous, but there’s something uniquely special about exploring our hinterland and coastline on foot. Whether we’re looking to get out for a quick escape or take a more challenging trek, Noosa’s walking trails are always a great option. Here’s a guide to some of our favourite spots to walk, with a local twist.

1. Noosa National Park Coastal Track

We can’t talk about Noosa’s trails without mentioning the iconic Noosa National Park Coastal Track. This is one of our go-to spots, offering a 5.4 km one-way trail that takes us along the coast, with views that’ll take your breath away. From dramatic cliffs to hidden beaches, and plenty of wildlife along the way (we often spot koalas in the trees), this track has it all. If we’re up for it, we keep going to Alexandria Bay, which feels like our own private slice of paradise. Whether we’re hiking solo or with friends, this one’s always a winner.

Why we love it: It’s a perfect snapshot of Noosa — beach, rainforest, wildlife, and sea views all in one walk.

Distance: 5.4 km one way (moderate difficulty)

2. Lake Weyba Circuit

For those days when we want something a little quieter, we head to Lake Weyba. This 6.2 km loop trail around the tranquil lake is one of our favourite escapes from the hustle and bustle of the beach. The walk is easy, mostly flat, and takes us through wetlands full of birdlife. It’s a peaceful, calming place that feels a world away from the busy town centre. Plus, the reflection of the surrounding trees and sky on the water is absolutely stunning — we never get tired of it.

Why we love it: It’s peaceful, beautiful, and perfect for a relaxed walk without too many crowds.

Distance: 6.2 km loop (easy difficulty)

3. Noosa Hill Lookout Trail

Sometimes we just need a quick, easy hike with a big payoff. The Noosa Hill Lookout Trail is just 1.2 km one way, and it takes us up to one of the best viewpoints in town. From the top, we get panoramic views of Noosa, the coastline, and the hinterland. We love to make it a sunrise or sunset walk — the colours over Noosa’s beaches are simply magical. It’s the perfect place to take in the scenery and enjoy a quiet moment, all without having to venture far.

Why we love it: It’s a short walk, but the view is unbeatable, and it’s a great spot to take a break and enjoy the surroundings.

Distance: 1.2 km one way (easy difficulty)

4. Tewantin National Park – Mount Cooroora

When we’re in the mood for a challenge, we head up Mount Cooroora. This 4.2 km return hike is a bit of a climb, but the views at the top are absolutely worth it. We love the sense of achievement that comes with making it to the summit. From up top, we can see all of Noosa, the surrounding hinterland, and even as far as the Glass House Mountains on a clear day. It’s a tough hike, but the sense of accomplishment and the stunning 360-degree views make it one of our all-time favourites.

Why we love it: The tough climb and the incredible summit views make it one of our top hiking spots for a real adventure.

Distance: 4.2 km return (challenging difficulty)

5. Noosa River Trail

For something a little more leisurely, we often take a walk along the Noosa River Trail. This 5.5 km trail runs along the river, through mangroves, wetlands, and open spaces. It’s an easy walk and perfect for a casual stroll when we want to clear our heads. Along the way, we can enjoy the calm river views, spot some local birdlife, and watch the kayakers and boaters on the water. It’s a peaceful retreat and a great way to spend an afternoon.

Why we love it: It’s relaxed and scenic — a great spot to enjoy a quiet walk along the river and watch the world go by.

Distance: 5.5 km one way (easy difficulty)

6. Noosa Trail Network

For those of us who are looking for a longer adventure, the Noosa Trail Network offers over 150 km of walking paths through the hinterland. There’s something for everyone here, whether we’re looking for a short day hike or a multi-day adventure. The trail network weaves through lush forests, rolling hills, and quaint country towns, and it’s a fantastic way to explore the rural side of Noosa. It’s a perfect choice when we want to get away from the crowds and experience Noosa’s more secluded landscapes.

Why we love it: It’s a great mix of Noosa’s rural beauty — from quiet forests to charming towns — and offers a real sense of adventure.

Distance: Varies (from 4 km to 150 km)
