Best Time To Visit Noosa: The Ultimate Guide for Visitors

Planning a Noosa getaway? It’s a common misconception that Noosa is solely a summer destination. With its world-class surf, pristine national park, iconic dining scene and stunning natural beauty, Noosa rewards visitors year round. But knowing the best time to visit Noosa can make a real difference in knowing how to make the most out of your trip. Whether you’re chasing that quintessential summer getaway or a quieter shoulder season escape, we’ve put together a comprehensive guide so you know exactly what you’re getting into.

Summer: December – February

Summer in Noosa is hot, golden and lively. Daytime temperatures tend to sit around 25-28°C, Hastings Street buzzes from morning to night, and the surf at Main Beach and the surrounding breaks are at their most consistent. December and January are when the full magic of the Noosa summer experience comes alive, making it a truly unmissable experience for those chasing the quintessential Australian summer.

Autumn: March – May

Autumn in Noosa is a sweet spot that return visitors swear by. As southern states start experiencing cold and gloomy days, Noosa settles into perfect average temperatures of 20-26°C. This glorious season is ideal for long walks through Noosa National Park or exploring the sparkling Noosa River by kayak or stand up paddleboard.

Winter: June – August

Forget what you think you know about winter, Noosa sets an entirely new standard. And we can’t get enough! Daytime temperatures tend to hover around the 19-23°C mark, where the clear blue skies and pristine waters make winter in Noosa a season to savour. Whale watching season peaks in July and August, with humpback whales often visible from the headland. What we’re saying is if you haven’t visited Noosa in winter, do so immediately.

Spring: September – November

Spring is yet another glorious time to visit our slice of paradise, with warming temperatures averaging around 22-27°C. The return of longer days, warmer ocean and stunning natural beauty makes this one of our favourite seasons in Noosa. September and October are particularly beautiful, warm enough for beach days, long lunches by the water and everything in between.

Noosa Events Calendar

We’ve handpicked a couple of our favourite events throughout the year in Noosa, so you can start planning your perfect getaway and know what the best time to visit Noosa is for your interests.

Noosa Surf Festival

Held each March, the Noosa Surf Festival is a celebration of longboarding, surf culture and everything that makes Noosa’s coastline so iconic. The festival celebrates longboarding and surf culture in a way that feels completely at home here, relaxed, unpretentious and genuinely fun whether you’re in the water or not. The waves at First Point are famously long and mellow, which makes for incredible watching even if you’ve never picked up a board in your life.

Noosa Food & Wine Festival

Noosa already punches well above its weight as a food destination, and then June comes around and somehow raises the bar even further. The festival brings together some of Australia’s best chefs, winemakers and producers for long lunches, waterfront dinners and pop-up experiences spread across Hastings Street and beyond. The timing is perfect too, warm enough to eat outside all day, cool enough to get through a bottle of red.

Noosa Concours d’Elegance

A showcase of rare and classic automobiles set on Hastings Street. It sounds like a niche crowd until you’re standing next to a perfectly restored 1960s coupe in crisp winter sunshine and realise the whole town has turned out for it. We promise it’s a surprisingly captivating afternoon even if cars aren’t usually your thing.

Noosa Triathlon

More than 10,000 athletes descend on Noosa each November for one of the most celebrated triathlons in the world, and the atmosphere is electric from start to finish at the Noosa Triathlon. The course winds through some of Noosa’s most iconic scenery, ocean swim beachside runs and a bike leg that takes in the hinterland. Even if you’re just watching from a cafe on Hastings Street, you’ll get swept up in it.

When Should You Visit Noosa?

Every season has its own thing going on and that’s genuinely what makes Noosa different from most beach destinations. Summer delivers that iconic Australian holiday experience with long days, warm water, a buzzing Hastings Street and the kind of golden light that makes everything look better. Autumn and spring sit in that sweet spot where the weather is perfect, the beaches are at their most peaceful and the pace of life slows down just enough to feel like a proper escape.  And winter is the season that converts the most skeptics: mild, sunny with the most unbelievable water clarity you’ve ever seen, and far more vivacious than people expect.

So if you’re trying to make your mind up, think about what kind of trip you want rather than what month looks best on paper. Lively and social? Summer or an event weekend. Relaxed and restorative? Autumn, winter or spring. Either way, you won’t be disappointed, because any time is the best time to visit Noosa.
