Lake Weyba

Discover discover Lake Weyba

Discover peaceful Lake Weyba, situated 4km south of Noosa Heads and ideal for kayaking, bushwalking, bird watching, fishing and kite surfing.

Historically significant

This salt water wetland is significant historically and currently to the first inhabitants, the Gubbi Gubbi tribe. An older spelling, ‘Weiba’ is thought to mean ‘flying squirrel’ or ‘stingray.’

Lake Weyba is a 9.6 square km, approximately 1 meter deep, tidal lake with plenty on offer for day visitors

Great for photography

Keen photographers will find stunning photo opportunities with majestic sunrises, sunsets, reptiles, wallabies, abundant birds, mangroves and melaleuca wetlands.

Ideal for families and picnics

The shallow water is great for toddlers and young families. There’s much to explore along the meandering natural trails.

The lakeside’s grassy areas invite you to BYO picnic and ballgames. The shady trees welcome you to stretch out for a snooze.

Lake Weyba fishing

Home to whiting, flathead, bream, trevally and mud crabs, Lake Weyba is a dream for fishing.

Some parts of the lake are deep enough for boating. Bring the tinnie or hire a boat and fishing gear from Noosa. In between the fish biting, you’ll be mesmerised by the birds and wildlife.

The shallow waters are the perfect spot for ‘L’ plate wind surfers and paddle boarders.

When the wind is up, watch or join the kite surfers skim across the water, defying gravity with their air born tricks.

Nearby Noosa Horse Riding offer trail rides through the lake’s waters and surrounds.

There are no hire facilities at the lake so BYO water craft or check out the local hire places. Hire companies will provide canoes, paddle boards and pushbikes to enhance your experience of the lake.

Getting There

Vehicle access from Noosa is via Lake Weyba Drive. From the Sunshine Coast, access is via Eumarella Road which turns into Lake Weyba Drive.

There is parking, but no public toilets or BBQ facilities. Rubbish bins are provided and the area is a council approved on-leash dog area.

A visit to this nationally significant wetland is well worth the time and exploration.

Little Cove Court has a selection of beautiful Little Cove Noosa apartments. The resort is central to everything Noosa has to offer. It is only a short drive or bike ride from Little Cove Court to discover beautiful Lake Weyba and other Noosa attractions.
